ABSTRACT

Some patients diagnosed as immune thrombocytopenia(ITP) have poor response to common first-line therapy such as corticosteroid and immunoglobulin. Studies in recent years have found a FC-independent platelet clearance pathway exists, which is characterized by desialylation of platelet surface glycoprotein(GP), recognition and phagocytosis by Ashwell-Morell receptor(AMR) on hepatocytes, independent on Fc receptors of the reticuloendothelial system. The up-regulation of neuraminidase-1(Neu1) expression on platelet caused by various factors, such as cold storage of platelet, septicemia and ITP could desialylate GPs. It has been found that ITP with positive anti-GPIbα antibody mostly has a poor response to first-line therapy and indicated that such antibody may lead to FC-independent platelet clearance. It also has been proved that anti-GPIbα antibody could desialylate GPs on platelet in animal experiments. Researchers have tris to use sialidase inhibitor agent to treat ITP and got a persistent response of platelet. Here, the desialylation of platelet and its role in ITP pathogensis and therapy are reviewed.

ABSTRACT

Corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) is a photochemotherapy for keratoconus, keratectasias and infectious keratitis.Corneal collagen fiber infiltrated with riboflavin, a photosensitizer which generates reactive oxygen species when activated by UVA at 370nm, was induced to form the crosslinks in corneal stroma.Corneal collagen cross-linking alone or combined with medicine therapy could be used to treat fungal keratitis, improve the cure rates, and reduce the complications and the demands of corneal transplantation surgery. The purpose of this paper is to review the basic principle, procedure, laboratory researches, clinical applications and the safety about this treatment.

ABSTRACT

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is the most common immune-mediated acquired bleeding disorders in children. The prognosis of majority of these patient are well, with recent complete remission. However, a few patients are facing the risk of bleeding since they do not respond to the first-line therapy, and need second-line therapy. The present second-line treatments are difficult to be popularized due to their efficacy, side-effects, costs and some other factors. The pulsed high-dose dexamethasone (HDD) therapy with its good effect, small adverse effects and low cost in adults has been used as the first-line therapy in newly diagnosed ITP, which now has attracted the attention of pediatricians. In this review, we briefly summarized the latest progress of pulsed HDD therapy for ITP in children.

ABSTRACT

AlM:To investigate the myopia risk factors of different nationalities students in primary and secondary schools in Karamay City. METHODS:This survey was a cross-sectional design, the sample was selected in the first, third and sixth grade primary school and middle school students by stratified random cluster method. The survey team comprised of ophthalmologists, technicians, optometrists and administrative staff. The staff was trained about the design, method and quality control, etc. According to the research needs, questionnaires were designed. ln person interview, pilot study, questionnaire, intraocular pressure, corneal curvature, refraction, axial length, corneal thickness, slit lamp microscopy and fundus examination were performed. A database was established using the Epi-data software by double entry method. All statistical analysis was completed by SPSS 17. 0 software. RESULTS:The survey covers 1 922 students in total, which account for 91. 4% students of the whole four grades. The total prevalence of myopia was 39. 2%. Multivariate analyses revealed that ethnic origin, age, gender, parents of short-sightedness, daily after-school reading and writing time and bad reading and writing habits were closely related to myopia ( OR=0. 149, 95%CI:0. 103-0. 216, P=0. 000; OR=1. 372, 95%CI: 1. 296-1. 453, P=0. 000; OR=1. 517, 95%CI: 1. 200-1. 918, P=0. 000;OR=0. 695, 95%CI: 0. 602-0. 804, P=0. 000; OR=1. 310, 95%CI:1. 086-1. 581, P=0. 005;OR=0. 655, 95%CI:0. 486-0. 882, P=0. 005). CONCLUSlON: Ethnic origin, age, gender, parents of short - sightedness, daily after - school reading and writing time and reading and writing habits were independent risk factors for myopia.
